Political Background : He started his political career after becoming the President of Delhi University Students Union in 1985. He also became a trade-union leader. In 1993 he became for the first time, a member of the Legislative Assembly of Delhi. In 1998, he won again from the same constituency. In 1999, at the age of 35, he became the Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister.

Achievements (HOT STATS) :Being Transport Minister in the Sheila Dikshit cabinet and is known for having brought in CNG. As a power minister, Ajay Maken is credited with privatizing Electricity distribution in Delhi. The youngest Speaker of any State Assembly in the country at the age of 39. In 2004 he became Member of Parliament after defeating the BJP candidate, sitting Cabinet Minister Jagmohan.
