Bombatt Verdict: A Political Debate

Bombatt Verdict, an unprecedented event in the Indian television history, a constituency wise political debate for Bangalore urban area was organized by news 9 and supported by Smart Vote on 14th April 2009.

Bangalore South

It kicked off with Bangalore South Constituency , represented by heavy weight Ananth Kumar (BJP) , Young congress leader Krishna Byre Gowda (Congress), Entrepreneur Capt Gopninath (Independent), Professor Radha Krishna (JD(S)) , Dr Jaya Lakshmi (SUCI) , Youths Santosh Min and K.C Janardhan both independent.
The reasons for contesting the election varied for different candidates, If one wants to tighten up national security, the other wants to assertive rights to people.

The debate was at its best with all the attacks and counter attacks from the candidate, Ananth Kumar raised the issue of rise in food prices for which Krishna Byre gowda counter attacked by stating the example of Goa govt ruled by congress, where foods prices have been subsides and the ruling party in Karnataka (BJP) not able to subsides the food prices.
Santosh Min (Angry Young Man), has many practical methods to counter corruption like having complaint register across all the govt offices and having many pedestrian crossings.

Dr Jayalakshmi raised the issue of job security stating the example of infosys laying off 2100 employees and public sector companies closing due to unavailability of funds.

I had never seen of heard Capt Gopinath with so much energy and speaking on political issues. He stated the corruption level in providing licenses for bakery and stressed more upon helping more entrepreneurs who can create jobs.

The drama begun when Krishna Byre gowda had to leave in the middle of the debate and audiences protested. But this young congress leader who claims to good listener which he is, was able to convince the audience and proved for his early exit. This was followed by Ananth kumar’s and Radha Krishna’s exit.

The audiences were only left with Capt Gopinath, Dr Jaylakshmi, Janardhan and Santosh min to anwers their queries.

Bangalore North
This was followed by Bangalore North Bangalore South Constituency, represented by heavy weight Jaffer Shariff (Congress), Chandra Gowda (BJP), Surendra Babu ( JD(s)), Zafer Mohiddin (Independent) , Tippu Vardan ( Bharatiya Prajya Paksha) , V Prasanna Kumar (Independent).

This was much more organized show by New 9, improving themselves on the mistakes made in the first session with more time allocated for audience questions.

Independent candidates were more stressing on the issue which the political parties have not been able to solve the common man’s (Am Adami ) issues.

Question: Prime Motto for contesting for Elections???
Surendra Babu : To keep a check on the amendments to be made to the public and work on reservation to reach to the lowest level.

Zafer Mohiuddin : Wants to bring youth to vote and wants to work on mass transportaion.

Jaffer Shariff : Lost in the pervious election, so wants to retire with an winning note
Chandre Gowda : Bring satisfaction to common man.

V Prasanna Kumar: Help the poor and solve the issue which political parties have not done.

Tippu Vardhan: To work on security, eliminate rowdies which can only be done with power.

A lot was debated on 2 party system Vs Multiple party systems, and the final outcome was multiple party systems leads to instability in the govt.

Question: Foremost Issue which needs to be solved???
Surendra Babu : Reservation, Security.

Zafer Mohiuddin : Security, Corruption, Mass transportation.

Jaffer Shariff: Internal Security, Corruption.

Chandra Gowda : Security .
